Hello all! My name is Cherry, a local Richmond resident. I have volunteered with CCSS for a little over a year and deeply appreciate the values that the organization upholds – one of which is connecting people from diverse backgrounds to one another.
I am currently working as a technical writer in the aviation industry. One of my favourite things about my line of work is being able to formulate complex subject matter into content that the layman can understand – increasing accessibility. As Banking industry is so dynamic, I am a flexible & fast learner but will easily get stressed. I will do dancing, yoga to get balances on my mind & body. During yoga, I’m completely free from the work stuff but only high concentration on my body. More important is Having a big feast after exercise is always therapeutic. I’m looking forward to meeting more new friends here as CCSS volunteers, in fact I have met some great wonderful ones.

Sherry Yang
Special Project Support
Hey, this is Sherry. I recently started volunteering in March, so I’m still quite new to it, haha! Being an international student, volunteering opens up a window to the local community for me. It not only gives me a sense of fulfillment from helping others and completing tasks but also provides valuable local and social experiences. It’s something I treasure a lot. Plus, it’s refreshing to gain energy and meet new people outside of the school environment.
On a lighter note, let me share how I unexpectedly became a cat owner. One evening, I found a kitten downstairs near my house. I’d heard stories of people accidentally adopting pets, but I never imagined it would happen to me. She was just a month and a half old, abandoned by a family earlier that day. My neighbor discovered her and explained the situation to me. He couldn’t take her in due to having too many cats, so I agreed to adopt her almost instantly. With no prior experience owning a cat, I embarked on a crash course in pet care. She brought countless moments of joy into my life, and although we’re apart now, I miss her dearly.

Let's hear what volunteer says...
Daniel has been one of the most influential figures in my life. Although we have not worked together for an extensive period, he has changed my life immensely. When I was 16, he was the first person who I felt like really believed in me. He gave me opportunities and trusted me with great responsibilities even though I had little experience in a leadership position. With his support, I started to gain my confidence and continued to learn. His constant support allowed me to fail and learn from my mistakes from a young age. I always knew that he had my back and that he would support me through anything. It is so rare that you see an adult trust a young kid and believe in him so much. I believe that every kid could benefit from having a figure like Daniel in their lives. He will never scold you but will give you advice and help through your whole journey. His leadership and generosity were always shown through his actions and his words to the ones that matter to him. His selflessness was recognized by all. Today, I am a young adult and I always tell people that I credit my success to Daniel. He was the first person who believed in and supported me. He gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams and gave me the mindset that I was good enough to do anything I put my mind to. Although we do not always keep in touch, Daniel is someone that I will never forget and that I will forever be grateful for. I know that the lives he changes each and every day mean more to him than anything else. That further reinforces my ideal of Daniel as the best, most selfless leader.
